Everyone knows that at Rock and Roll Daycare we’re all about the music and educating your child in the Montessori method. While we do this daily through our programs, we know that you want to be able to do it for your children as well.

You don’t have to bring in a full orchestra to teach your children about music. There are many simple ways to get the music going at home that your kids will love (you will too!).

Here are some ideas:

Sing with Your Kids

You don’t have to have a rockstar voice to sing with your kids. Trust us, they won’t even notice if you’re a little off-key…or a lot! What they will notice are the melodies and rhythms. Sing along to a song on the radio or sing their favorite nursery rhymes. They will love whatever you’re doing and will probably start singing along with you.

Play Music in the Home

Simply playing music in your home will boost everyone’s mood and make them happy. Music releases a chemical in your brain called dopamine which improves your mood and reduces anxiety. It can also help in the production of cortisol, a stress-reducing hormone that makes you feel happy and motivated. If you’ve ever noticed that kids are happy when music is playing, this may be a big reason why.

Have a Dance Party

Kids love to dance, so why not have a family dance party? Get some music going and just have fun. This will not only introduce your kids to some fun music, but it’s also a good way to get some family bonding time in.

Experience Cultural Music Together

Music from different countries can have some great beats. Introduce different types of music and let your children see which type they like best. At Rock and Roll Daycare, we are constantly introducing music from different cultures to our students. For the past two months, we’ve been focusing on France and its culture, including music.

We are using our French Heritage Songbook to bring French music to life for kids. They can learn songs and hear the different rhythms.

We have these songbooks for all of the different countries and cultures we expose our students to. At our centers and through our NannyShare program, children are learning so much about these cultures at a young age. This is instilling an appreciation of all different things.

Another great source of finding musical inspiration is through our Instagram page. Our Fridays with Phil series often incorporates music and activities so kids can learn and have fun at the same time. Be sure to check them out and visit us often for exciting and interesting tidbits to help you along your parenting journey.
