Materials:
Clear jar, food coloring, corn syrup, oil, dish soap, water, rubbing alcohol,
measuring cup, and a funnel.
Lesson: Summary
You will pour 3⁄4 cup of each liquid into your glass jar for each ocean layer.

- Add black food coloring to 3⁄4 cup of corn syrup and pour into the bottom of the glass jar.
- Mix blue food coloring into 3⁄4 cup of dish soap and add it to the jar using a funnel.
- Put blue food coloring into 3⁄4 cup of water and use a funnel to slowly and carefully layer it on top of the dish soap.
- Add 3⁄4 cup of oil into the jar using a funnel.
- Very carefully add 3⁄4 cup of rubbing alcohol to the top of the oil.
- Label each level of the jar according to the oceans zones (Use the control sheet of the Ocean Zones 3 part cards activity below).
