The Christmas season is a great time to do some fun crafts with the kids and sing Christmas songs, of course! As the holiday quickly approaches, it’s not too late to get in the spirit of things.
At Rock and Roll Daycare, we are always introducing children to different holidays and cultures and Christmas is no different. As we’re preparing at our centers and through our Nanny Share program, there are plenty of things you can do at home with your kids too.
We searched around the web for some great ideas to help you spend time together and enjoy the holiday. Check them out!
Christmas Crafts
Kids Handprint Wreath
This is a cute idea that your kids will enjoy making with you and you’ll enjoy displaying in your home. You only need a few materials, so it’s not too complicated.
You’ll need:
Green Construction Paper
Piece of red construction paper or a red ribbon
Pencil, scissors, glue
Glitter or glitter glue
All you have to do is trace your child’s hand on a piece of green construction paper and cut out the handprint. Make about 10 paper hands for each wreath. Glue the handprints together in a wreath shape. Let the wrists overlap to make the design. That’s all you have to do to make this fun Christmas craft.
Accordion Christmas Tree
Here’s another fun Christmas craft. This one is a bit more detailed, so you may want to save this for the older ones.
You’ll need:
Green card stock
Stapler
Colorful cardstock (for the ornaments and star)
15/16″ star punch
Hot glue gun
1″ circle punch
Cut the green card stock and fold it so that it looks like an accordion. Take one end and staple it. Then, cut out a star and attach it to the top. Make circles and cut them out. Hot glue them to the tree for decoration. For a look at the finished product, check out this link.
Christmas Music
Besides fun Christmas crafts, there is plenty of Christmas music for the kids to join in on. At our centers, we incorporate music from our partner Fiddlefox. When you’re at home, you can also access this program through your own subscription.
This Christmas season, there is plenty of fun music that kids can have fun with.
Jingle Bells
What’s more fun for kids than making noise with bells? Grab some bells and jingle all the way!
Here is a link to the lyrics. Kids can have fun singing, making noise, or both.
Frosty the Snowman
Frosty the Snowman is another Christmas classic. Kids will have fun making the “thumpity thump thump” sounds as they look at Frosty go. If you’re unsure of the lyrics, check out this link for some help.
Whether you’re crafting, making music, or both, there’s plenty to do this time of year to celebrate the Christmas season.
