Circle of Color

This month at Rock and Roll Daycare we celebrated the Indian International night and were lucky enough to watch Indian dancers perform for children. Many classrooms also made use of the summer time and adventured out to field trips. The infants took a boat ride by the Charles river and learned about sounds from various Indian instruments like the tabla- a smaller sized hand drum.

In the toddler rooms they were busy learning how to take care of themselves by serving themselves and setting up a picnic! Children also learned new words regarding metamorphosis and butterflies by reading the Very Hungry Caterpillar. They also released their pet butterflies into the wild, after observing their process.

Some younger toddlers painted by popping bubble wrap with their feet! This sensorial feeling can be a good outlet for children to release their active energy inside the classroom.

Children also learned about some reptiles and amphibians and sea animals, they learned the lifecycle of a frog and some new vocabulary along with it. Children also got to look at amphibian habitats to really understand them better.

In Preschool, children were a lot busier learning about very interesting new topics! They celebrated Pride, separated fact and fiction about Pirates and wrapped up India. Children also visited the Museum of Fine Arts and looked at mummies, pointillism, Joan Jonas- an abstract artist they have been learning about.

Children also had a cooking class, they learned how to make paneer and enjoyed it for lunch the next day with some Tikka Masala! We give children many opportunities to try and taste new foods because experiencing the food helps learn about it even more.

Children explored different bugs and insects and their lifecycles too, as part of Spring. They used a non-fiction book to figure out which animals belong together.

Children also studied different flowers, including their names, colors and smells.
